We’re in a new decade now, and how exciting the possibilities are for what we can add and strengthen in our lives. Many of us are ready for changes and resolutions at the dawn of a new year, but oftentimes they fall by the wayside as we re-establish our routines after the holidays. We encourage you to use this chilly time to invest in your deeper self, a time to be quiet and reflective. It is this quiet that gives space to see what is fueling the habit we desire to change.
Ways to Reach Your Goals in 2010
- Be Quiet. Go for a walk, sit down on the couch, or at the kitchen table with no distractions. When we are quiet we can push away the distractions in our minds, and allowing authentic parts to surface.
- Write it Down. Begin broad, allow your mind to
wander. Describe what you want, but also any memories or feelings you associate with it. Set it aside for a day or two then read it over again. Do you see anything new? Now describe precisely what you want, how you will get it, when you will have it and the benefits you’ll receive from achieving your goal.
- Talk about it. Once you’re goal is clear and you have made a commitment to achieve it, start talking about it! We do not have to be alone in this process. Talking about your goals makes them emotionally real and powerful. It allows people to help you reach your goal and support you along the way.
- Have a plan. Create a map for getting there. And put dates on it! A goal of cooking more is just a fantasy without a healthy eating and menu strategy. A goal to have more time with loved ones is to map out how we want to spend time with them and when. The beauty of a plan is that it shows you a path to your goal. SHC is offering a 2010 Game Plan that can help you get closer to your goals.
- Start small, and Gain Momentum. Remember, you don’t have to change over night. Change often happens in increments, and is a process we commit to. Set a reasonable goal for a week, and keep adding to it. Your goal will naturally begin to integrate into your life. Don’t forget to celebrate the small successes! When you get discouraged, your record of the past will remind you how far you’ve come!
