General SHC FAQ

Who would benefit best from your programs?
People come to us for a variety of reasons including: stress, excess weight, digestive issues, low energy, muscle tension, food allergies/sensitivities, poor body image, arthritis, discomfort resulting from Caesarean or natural childbirth, pregnancy related tension, and anxiety to name just a few. back to top

How long do people work with you?
Our services accommodate one-time visitors as well as those wanting long-term, sustainable changes. We have massage clients that receive only one massage while others choose a package of massages that lasts a year. When people work with Miriam its usually for at least 3-months, and usually 6-months. We find it takes people at least this much time to integrate change into their lives. At times we notice that the people we work with feel they have more to focus on at the end of 6-months so we continue on longer. back to top

What results do your clients see?
We notice that people experience a multitude of health benefits, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Specifically, we have seen many positive changes occur like:

How much does it cost to work with you?
Please contact us so that we can discuss costs. back to top

Where are you located? Do you only work with local clients?
We are located in Greensboro, NC at a community center in the Glenwood neighborhood called The HIVE. We have worked with health counseling clients all across the United States. All sessions are conducted over the phone so no matter where you are we are happy to work with you. This alleviates the need for a drive to our office or to find a babysitter… as you can do the session from your home or office. back to top

What is your cancellation policy?
We require a 24 hour cancellation notice. If you would like to change your appointment, please call us at 336.404.8109 no later than 24 hours prior to your appointment. All “No Shows” and “Last Minute Cancellations” are charged 50% of the appointment fee. If you show up late to your appointment, you will still be charged the amount of time you scheduled. back to top

Massage FAQ

How often should I get a massage?
The more often you receive a massage, the more benefits you notice. The effects of massage are cumulative. For example, if your run once around the block, not much is going to happen for you, but running daily gets you in shape! In general, we encourage people to receive a massage once a month for health maintenance. In other circumstances, we might encourage weekly massage so your body receives the best results. If you want to receive regular massage but your budget is tight, some people choose to have consistent, yet shorter sessions to spread the cost out. back to top

What is a seated massage?
Seated massages are 5 to 30 minute sessions. These sessions typically focus on the upper body, but other areas can be worked on. This is a good option if you want to remain fully clothed. Because of the mobility of seated massage, it can be done in most places. This has been offered at workplaces for employees or for group events. back to top

How long is a massage session?
The type of massage will dictate the length of the massage. Generally, a full body massage lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. People will get a 30 or 45 minute massage if cost or time is an issue, or if someone only wants work on a specific area. Oftentimes, I recommend 60 minutes because it is easier to incorporate immediate concerns and long term plans to release chronic muscle tension. back to top

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. It is based on the notion of Chi (Ki), or life energy, and that Chi flows through energy pathways. Restrictions in these pathways can make one more vulnerable to stress in our lives and lead to dysfunction of various systems of the body. Reiki can help promote the flow of energy, open restrictions and energy blockages, and can support a deep experience of relaxation. There are situations in which energy blockages or locked emotion can help create or maintain muscle tension and the way we use our bodies. Reiki can help release the muscles faster and more easily. Reiki is done with the hands, using contact holds. Oftentimes the hands are held still over different areas, slightly above your body or very lightly on top. back to top

Health Counseling FAQ

What is a Holistic Health Counselor (HHC)?
Health Counselors are your personal advocates for living the life you want. Whatever your concerns are, my job is to help you find which food and lifestyle choices will work best for you. When diet changes, everything changes. My work is very supportive and I coach you along the path of making the diet and lifestyle changes you want. This holistic approach also helps you find balance between work, exercise, relationships and food. back to top

How is a HHC different from a licensed nutritionist or a dietician?
Nutritionists and dieticians are trained to assess your specific nutritional needs and provide you with recommendations. The biggest difference is that you will receive ongoing support on what is working with YOUR body. I know how difficult it is to implement change. I have knowledgeable strategies that will get you the lasting success you need. We know that food is not the only area affecting your health. This means that I will also help you look at how all of the factors in your life affect your progress towards your health and lifestyle goals. back to top
